Data Steward


The Data Steward will join the LIH’s Department of Medical Informatics (DMI). She/He will play a vital role in managing and safeguarding the data assets. This includes ensuring data quality, integrity, and compliance with relevant regulations. The Data Steward collaborates with all the stakeholders to define data standards, implement data governance policies, and resolve data-related issues.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement data governance policies, procedures, and standards. Monitor and enforce compliance with data management policies;
  • Define and execute data quality checks and audits. Identify and rectify data discrepancies, errors, and anomalies;
  • Maintain metadata repositories and data dictionaries. Ensure metadata accuracy and consistency;
  • Implement data protection measures. Monitor and report on data security incidents or breaches;
  • Oversee data ingestion, transformation, storage, and archiving processes. Develop and enforce data retention and disposal policies;
  • Communication with medical users and data scientists to understand data requirements and priorities; 
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for data assets and processes. Generate regular reports on data quality, compliance, and governance metrics;
  • Participation in scientific authoring and presentations;
  • Participation in national and international scientific conferences.

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field;
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL;
  • Strong understanding of data management principles, data modeling, and database systems;
  • Knowledge of relevant data privacy and compliance regulations (e.g., GDPR);
  • Proficiency in data governance tools and technologies;
  • Experience in the medical domain is an asset;
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills;
  • Attention to detail and a strong sense of responsibility for data accuracy and integrity;
  • Language skills: fluent in English (written and oral).
