The Luxembourg National Research Fund awards Rejko Krüger of the Transversal Translational Medicine Dept.

25 October 2022 1minute

At the 14th edition of the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) Awards, Rejko Krüger, director of Transversal Translational Medicine (TTM) at the LIH, along with Ibrahim Boussaad of the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB), were given the award for “Outstanding Scientific Achievement” for their proof-of-concept of precision medicine in the field of neurodegenerative disease.

Precision medicine is already somewhat established in diseases like cancer, but not so much when it comes to neurodegenerative diseases. The awarded project from the TTM focused on patients suffering from a rare familial form of Parkinson’s disease with a specific genetic defect. Rejko and his team were able to identify a new potential target therapy for them and for the first time, they managed to develop one that treats the cause of the disease instead of just the symptoms.

For more information, check out this video about the project.

Congratulations to Rejko and his team for their remarkable discovery!
