Laboratory Technician in Biomedical Research


The Laboratory Technician will join the LIH’s Department of Infection and Immunity and will work on the EU funded project COMMUTE under the joint leadership of the Department of Infection and Immunity and of Transversal Translational Medicine Hub. She/He will work as a technician on neuro-immunological projects and carry out broader tasks. She/he will also suggest initiatives to resolve or prevent technical problems in consultation with the project leaders.

Key Accountabilities

  • Carry out and optimize experiments in the research laboratory;
  • Analyze and report results to the project leaders;
  • Monitor equipment and report any technical issues to the Head of Laboratory or project leaders;
  • Manage stocks of consumable materials (receive and store deliveries, draft purchase orders for approval, research information on products to be ordered, etc.);
  • Quickly learn new laboratory techniques required for projects;
  • Where necessary, suggest improvements to experimental protocols

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Laboratory Technician Diploma (Bachelor’s degree; 3 years of higher education) in biology or biomedicine (mandatory);
  • Practical experience in cell culture (primary cells and/or cell lines), human PBMC isolation, flow cytometry, basic molecular biology, immunology/neuroimmunology is an asset;
  • Practical experience in advanced biomolecular experiments, such as protein aggregation assays (seed aggregation assay) is an asset;
  • Practical experience in human iPSC culture and differentiation is an asset;
  • Rigor, teamwork, motivation, and sense of initiative;
  • Languages: fluent English (mandatory); knowledge of German and/or French is an asset.
