Research Engineer in Nutrition Sciences


Within the Department of Precision Health, Dr. Torsten Bohn, Head of the Nutrition & Health Research Group (NUTRIHEALTH), we aim to strengthen our team, especially in laboratory-related aspects. An important focus is the setting-up of HPLC protocols (carotenoids, polyphenols) by UV-Vis and fluorescence methods, but also particle size analyses and conducting ELISAs. The Research Engineer would work together with technicians, post-docs, PhD students, and master students of the team.  
Thus, for our NutriHealth team, we are offering a 18 months research engineer position at our premises.
The main tasks of the Research Engineer are supporting running studies in the areas of in vitro digestion, bioactivity of secondary plant metabolites, and obesity related projects. The Research Engineer will benefit from the expertise of Dr. Torsten Bohn in nutrition and health and food chemistry, and Dr. Farhad Vahid in nutrition sciences and nutritional epidemiology.

Key Accountabilities

  • Carry out research experiments: Laboratory related techniques: HPLC, spectro-photometry, ELISA (markers inflammation, oxidative stress…), particle-size analysis, cell-culture studies, etc.;
  • Interpret findings statistically;
  • Participate in project meetings & organization;
  • Supervises technicians and trainees;
  • Supports project and publication writing;
  • Organization of laboratory and stock management;
  • Join other group-based activities;
  • Bibliographic research;


Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Research Engineering or Food Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Nutrition sciences or comparable;
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with HPLC;
  • Experience with In vitro experiments, cell culture work and related fields;
  • Fluency in English; scientific writing skills;
  • Excellent project and time management;
  • Bring professionalism, exactness, discipline and proactivity to work in a multi-disciplinary team;
  • sense of priority, critical thinking, and management skills.
