Master's Internship Position in Analytical Chemistry Applied to Human Biomonitoring


ExpoSignalz Project: An exciting research project funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme

The aim of the ExpoSignalz Project is to investigate how exposure to environmental pollutants impact brain health throughout a person’s life, and the potential association to dementia. Exposure will be assessed through the analysis of different biological samples collected from human participants. We are seeking a motivated Masters level student (preferably enrolled in Analytical Chemistry or Chemical Engineering) to join our team for a Master II Internship. 

Key Accountabilities

As part of this Master II internship, the candidate will:               

  • Analyze pollutants (pesticides, POPs,  endocrine disruptors) and their by-products and metabolites in biological matrices (ex: hair, blood, urine, tissues).
  • Contribute to the development and critical evaluation of analytical methods.
  • Support daily laboratory activities, including mantainence of analytical equipment.
  • Receive practical training in various state-of-the-art analytical techniques such as liquid and gas chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometric detection (LC-MS / MS and GC-MS / MS) as well as pre-analytical work (extraction from biological matrices, purification and concentration of extracts) with the support of a highly skilled team. 
  • Participate in the analysis and processing of the data produced: results formatting, interpretation, and statistical analysis.

Key Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Master’s program in Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong interest in analytical science, biomonitoring, and environmental health research.
  • Motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to learn in a collaborative research environment.
