Master’s Student in Public Health & Statistics

Please note that the compensation for this internship is €812 gross per month, plus meal vouchers.

BACKGROUND

The internship will be embedded within an ongoing research programme at the Socio-Economic & Environmental Health & Health Services Research Unit (Department of Precision Health). One of the core research areas of the team focuses on examining social and structural determinants of health inequalities using population-based data. The proposed internship is situated within projects that leverage a longitudinal survey. Particular emphasis is placed on exploring scientific literature and advanced quantitative methods to strengthen policy-relevant evidence in health research. 

OBJECTIVES

The internship aims to explore the scientific literature and conduct data analysis using longitudinal survey data. 

TRAINING AND RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT

The intern will be supervised by Dr. Maria Ruiz-Castell and Dr. Babul Hossain from the “Socio-Economic & Environmental Health & Health Services" Research Unit, within the Department of Precision Health. The intern will be integrated into team activities and will receive close methodological and scientific supervision throughout the internship period. The internship will provide hands-on experience in data management, advanced statistical analysis, and scientific writing within a multidisciplinary and international research environment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct a structured review of the relevant scientific literature;
  • Apply appropriate statistical methods;
  • Draft reports and publish research in peer-reviewed international journals.

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Master’s program in Statistics, Epidemiology, Health Economics, or a related field;
  • Good statistical knowledge and hands-on experience with statistical programs (STATA or R);
  • Good organizational skills;
  • Excellent planning and communication skills, ability to work in complex, multi-disciplinary teams, and to coordinate work;
  • Sense of responsibility, autonomy, curiosity, flexibility, and respect for confidentiality;
  • Ability to work with different profiles and people from different experiences and cultural backgrounds;
  • Language skills: Fluency in English is mandatory, with written skills in English. Any other language in use in Luxembourg would also be an asset.
