Project Manager


About the Human Biomonitoring Research Unit (HBRU)


The HBRU has strong expertise in analytical toxicology and development of biomarkers for the assessment of human exposure to different occupational and environmental pollutants such as pesticides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and persistent organic pollutants. The research group aims to expand existing knowledge of the relationships between exposure to pollutants and subsequent biological/biochemical disorders.
HBRU’s analytical techniques are mainly based on chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry applied to various biological matrices such as blood, urine and hair.
We are looking for a motivated and organized Project Manager to join our team. The successful applicant will play a central role in the HBRU, by coordinating and handling administrative tasks as well as supporting and contributing to scientific activities and research projects.

Key Accountabilities

  • Organize and coordinate administrative tasks within the research group
  • Assist in the writing and establishment of consortium project applications
  • Assist in project management, coordination, and administrative follow-up of projects, services and other activities
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, timelines, and budgets and monitor the progress of the projects/activities with respect to those. Communicate project/activities status, milestones, and deliverables regularly.
  • Support staff members in grant application, result presentation and slidedeck/poster preparation
  • Identify project/activities requirements, constraints, and dependencies.
  • Stakeholder management with national and international partners (e.g. plan and coordinate meetings, deliverables, joint activities, information exchange)    
  • Ensure compliance to and prepare ethics requests, GDPR, DPIA and other documents needed to fullfill regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that project deadlines are met.
  • Manage project-related risks.
  • Work in tight partnership and provide regular updates to the HBRU group leader.
  • Contribute to and support scientific communication activities (e.g. websites, presentations, posters, press, and general public).

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Master or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline or science administration
  • Proven experience in grant writing and project management
  • Good knowledge of project financial and administrative management
  • Process-oriented with excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Good negotiation and diplomatic skills to effectively progress the projects
  • Autonomy in organizing work, proactive attitude
  • Ability to work in a multinational environment and interact positively with team members and stakeholders
  • Flexibility, adaptability, autonomy, target and detail-oriented
  • Rigor, motivation, conciseness, sense of priority
  • Past Experience in wet-lab work is considered an asset
  • Language skills: fluent command of English in written and oral, knowledge of French, German or Luxembourgish is considered an asset.
