Luxembourg Pilot Comprehensive Cancer Center

The LIH is part of a national consortium with all healthcare stakeholders to establish a Luxembourg Comprehensive Cancer Center Pilot (CCCN), within the framework of the European Network of Comprehensive Cancer Centres (EUnetCCC) project. This Joint Action seeks to build a cohesive network of certified Comprehensive Cancer Centres to improve access to high-quality cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and research across Europe. Through this collaboration, LIH works with national and international partners to integrate cutting-edge research and clinical care, reduce regional disparities, and support capacity building and knowledge sharing.

In this context, LIH is actively participating in major European Union cancer initiatives aimed at strengthening collaboration, expertise, research and quality of care across member states.

Activities

The development and definition of standards for research, innovation, education, and the integration of research and care applicable to national cancer centers through the CCI4EU project.

In parallel, participation in the UNCAN.eu project, currently being continued by the CANDLE project, will support the creation of a national cancer research data node.

As part of the Joint Action on Networks of Expertise (JANE-2)—an EU4Health-funded effort to establish seven new EU-wide Networks of Expertise in oncology—LIH contributes scientific and translational research expertise in areas such as OMICS and ex vivo drug testing within the broader European oncology community to help enhance knowledge exchange and patient-centered innovation.

The LIH, in collaboration with INC, represents Luxembourg within the ECHoS consortium. The LIH actively contributes to the establishment of the Luxembourg National Cancer Mission Hubs (NCMHs), drawing on its expertise in translational research and precision health.

Finally, The LIH is a partner in the EU-CIP (European Cancer Information Portal) project, an EU-funded initiative to create a patient-centric cancer information platform that improves access to reliable, evidence-based cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship information across Europe.

New project starting : LIH is part of the new JAPCM (Joint Action for Personalised Cancer Medicine), a major EU-funded collaboration (part of EU4Health)  involving 146 partners from 29 countries, aiming to implement personalized cancer medicine (PCM) across Europe. It focuses on streamlining diagnostics (liquid biopsy, NGS), developing clinical trial networks, and creating sustainable models for data and pricing.
