19 September 2021 2minutes

“WEESS DE WAT?!”, a Luxembourgish television show hosted by Joé Feiereisen, airs every Sunday on RTL. In a short engaging format, this children-oriented series explores a wide-variety of topics ranging from how milk is produced to the science behind allergies, the latter bringing Joé all the way to the Department of Infection and Immunity of the LIH to find answers.

In an episode entitled: “Wat mécht ee géint Allergien?” (what can we do against allergies?) Joé seeks the help of Dr Christiane Hilger, Group Leader at the Molecular and Translational Allergology group, who, with the help of her team and a handful of dog hairs brought over by the host, explains the concept of an ‘allergen’. Next, Joé meets Dr Annette Kuehn, Group Leader at the Molecular and Translational Allergology group in an episode entitled: “Wéi fënnt een eraus ob een allergesch ass?” (how can you find out if you are allergic?). Using a small sample of his blood, Dr Kuehn and her team help Joé discover the science behind serum allergy tests.
