On Monday, December 4th 2023, the LIH welcomed the newly elected Minister for Higher Education and Research Mrs Stéphanie Obertin for a guided tour of the LCTR Fuerschungsklinik.

The working visit provided the opportunity for Prof Ulf Nehrbass, CEO of the LIH, and Dr Gregor Baertz, President of the Board of Directors, to discuss the various current and future activities of the institute, as well as its positioning and role in the context of the new government’s research and innovation strategy.

Specifically, the guided tour of the facilities features a series of presentations focused on the key priority research areas of the institute. Namely, Dr Johannes Meiser, Director of the Department of Cancer Research (DoCR), presented the department’s work on the translation of fundamental research findings into clinical practice, while Dr Guy Fagherazzi, Director of the Department of Precision Health (DoPH), introduced the role of digital biomarkers for personalised health monitoring. This was followed by Dr Hermann Thien’s presentation of the infrastructure of and services offered by the Translational Medicine Operations Hub (TMOH), and by Dr Jasmin Schulz’s presentation of Clinnova and its role in unlocking the potential of data science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare.

We were honoured to guide Minister Obertin through the cutting-edge infrastructure and facilities of the LCTR”, stated Prof Nehrbass.

Our institute has played and will keep playing a crucial role as a platform supporting governmental decision-making over the coming years.
