To mark World Statistics Day, Science.lu spoke with two members of the Luxembourg Society of Statistics, including Gwenaëlle Le Coroller, biostatistician at the LIH’s Competence Center in Methodology and Statistics.

The interview explores how surveys are designed, why they remain essential for shaping evidence-based policies, and what makes them reliable. From health behaviors to socioeconomic factors and national indicators, the experts highlight how high-quality data supports public decision-making and why citizen participation is vital, especially in smaller countries like Luxembourg.

They also shed light on common concerns such as survey fatigue, data protection, representativeness, methodological bias, and the growing use of multimodal and digital survey tools.
