The Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) recently brought together participants of the Parkinson’s Precision Medicine Initiative (PPMI) for a special event recognizing their invaluable contributions to Parkinson’s research.
Led by The Michael J. Fox Foundation, PPMI is a landmark international study aimed at improving our understanding of Parkinson’s disease and accelerating the development of new treatments. LIH is one of the clinical sites contributing to this global research effort.
“We are very pleased that the foundation has chosen us as a trusted partner. Our collaboration, which began in 2023, has grown into a strong and successful partnership, marked by excellent retention rates, mutual trust and a shared commitment to long-term success,” says Prof. Dr Rejko Krüger, Principal Investigator at the Luxembourg site and TTM Director at LIH.
Shedding light on the importance of the participant’s contribution
Through a presentation at the LIH laboratory within the Department of Infection and Immunity, as well as a PPMI video, participants learned more about how their biological samples and clinical data are used to advance research. They particularly appreciated discovering the scale and impact of PPMI, illustrated by the impressive number of participants enrolled and the thousands of data downloads by researchers worldwide.
Beyond the scientific updates, the event provided an opportunity for participants to meet, share experiences, and interact with the LIH team in an informal setting.
Participants expressed their appreciation for the event’s organization, the informative presentations, and the thoughtful gifts offered as a token of gratitude.
LIH warmly thanks all PPMI participants for their continued trust, commitment, and generosity. Their contributions are essential to advancing our understanding of Parkinson’s disease and supporting the development of better treatments.
