Welcome back to the ACADI newsletter! We hope you are enjoying the summer season – we have some updates to share.

Publications

PhD student Gladys Langue has published her first paper for her PhD! Her paper is a scoping review entitled “Attributing non-specific symptoms to cancer in general practice: A scoping review”. You can read her fascinating work here:  https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0322264

Conference Acceptance

Our team is excited to announce that we have had several acceptances to present our work at the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG) 2025 conference in Ghent this November!

Dr Sophie Pilleron, Dr Clémence Bafei and Gladys Langue will present poster presentations showcasing their work. Excitingly, Dr Pauline Duquenne has been selected to give a plenary talk on a SIOG collaborative systematic review examining mortality prediction models in older adults with cancer!

Please join us in congratulating the team on these achievements!

In the news

At the end of June, Dr India Pinker was interviewed by Luxembourg Times about the paper she led on the representation of older adults in European cancer guidelines. This research was done in collaboration with colleagues from SIOG.

The interview explores Dr Pinker’s research background and the key findings from this collaborative work. She also discusses the current landscape of geriatric oncology and shares her thoughts on future directions in the field. LIH 10 Year Anniversary

The LIH has celebrated its 10th birthday in style, showcasing some of its largest accolades and achievements. One such showcase is the FNR ATTRACT Fellowship awarded to ACADI’s Group Leader, Dr Sophie Pilleron, which cemented ACADI’s existence.

Gladys in Paris

PhD student Gladys Langue recently completed a research stay with the Clinical Epidemiology and Ageing research unit (CEpiA) in Créteil, near Paris, France. During her time there, she started working with data from the local ELderly CAncer PAtient (ELCAPA) Cohort, formally starting the collaboration between ACADI and CEpiA. A special thank you goes to ThinkPink Luxembourg for making this research stay a reality!

Gladys gained valuable hands-on experience in dataset management and contributed to essential quality control processes for the cohort data. She also attended scientific communication events such as the national final of “My Thesis in 180 seconds” (Ma thèse en 180 seconde).  Beyond research, Gladys also made the most of being in a new city and shared some highlights from the Gallery of Palaeontology and Comparative Anatomy!
