In Vivo Imaging Engineer


Background

The Animal Facility is a core facility of LIH that provides state-of-the-art animal experimentation services to the scientific community. The Animal facility incorporates an in vivo imaging platform supporting the use of a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system, an ultrasound system and an optical imager. The facility is used today to validate in vitro experimental findings and patient-derived correlative analyses in preclinical models. Furthermore, promising new drugs or treatment paradigms are investigated before their consideration for clinical trials. Applications range from Oncology to Neuro-degenerative and Inflammatory diseases.

Objectives

We are looking for a platform engineer with a strong interest in medical imaging to operate the imaging equipment of the Facility and support users of the platform in their daily activities. The position includes training users, troubleshooting technical issues, develop new protocols based on user needs and routine scanning for various research projects.

Training and research environment

The Facility supports the research groups of LIH and local partners by providing high quality animal experimentation services. State-of-the-art preclinical imaging are available in a dedicated imaging room. The in vivo Imaging Engineer will be part of a team that includes animal experimentation and medical imaging specialists. In their role in the Facility, they will be responsible for the proper operation of the in vivo imaging equipment of the Institute, training and assisting users to develop new protocols matching custom needs, supporting users in their daily activities and acquiring quality images in service mode. LIH provides access to continuous training to stay up-to-date with the latest technology advances.

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Master Degree or higher in Medical Imaging, Engineering, Physics or a related field;
  • Strong interest in in vivo preclinical imaging;
  • Proven experience working with MRI devices, including operation, system maintenance and data analysis;
  • Established expertise in in vivo ultrasound and/or optical imaging is an asset;
  • Desire to extend knowledge to address the varied needs of the imaging platform, including the optimization and development of new protocols and applications;
  • Prior experience with rodent experimentation, with a Function A / FELASA B certification or equivalent;
  • Experience in services-oriented functions, training and end users support in research environments is an asset;
  • Independent and self-motivated person, problems solving minded, with strong team spirit and collaborative capacity. Excellent time management, rigour, perseverance and flexibility;
  • Fluency in English is mandatory.
