Research Coordinator


The “Human Motion, Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine, Digital Methods” (HOSD) unit is a transversal and translational research group at the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) conducting and supporting research related to movement, physical activity, physical function and mobility using laboratory-based, free-field, real-world and digital tools in orthopaedics and sports medicine including applications in other disease areas.

The Science Office (SO) at the Luxembourg Institute of Health drives the coordination, strategy, and excellence of the institute’s research activities. It supports the planning and implementation of scientific strategy, manages and initiates research projects, and enhances LIH’s visibility and impact through science valorisation and communication.

HOSD and SO are seeking for a a proactive and detail-oriented Research Coordinator

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of the European project developing Smart Implants SMILE, e.g. keeping track of deliverables and other contributions to the consortium
  • Support administrative processes related to the implementation of SMILE and other projects within the LIH research team HOSD by acting as a link to LIH Science Office
  • Contribute in particular to processes related to data protection procedures, ethics protocols, subject consent, including secondary use and their development towards templates.
  • Strengthen and execute research and administrative activities in particular related to digital methods, including generating and exploiting data(bases) using ML/AI, LIH-HPC and interfacing with our Department of Medical Informatics (DMI).
  • Support the development (administrative processes and technical execution) of new projects within HOSD, notably those related to partners such as LIROMS, Sportfabrik and the Orthopedic surgeons at the CHL
  • Develop long-term strategic program ideas in collaboration with LIROMS, Sportfabrik and the Orthopedic surgeons at the CHL
  • Collaborate on the development and strategic planning to leverage HOSD/SmILE research infrastructures, skills and data into the LIH research strategies (e.g. large-scale digital mobility biomarkers for routine clinical assessment, etc)


Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • PhD in the field of Medical/Health, Biomedical, or Life Sciences,
  • Proven organizational and project management skills in a biomedical or clinical research environment,
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively, with an agile and solution-oriented mindset,
  • Strong communication skills and experience in stakeholder engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration,
  • Understanding of data protection, ethics, and legal frameworks in biomedical research,
  • Excellent command in English, strong French knowledge is a plus,
  • Experience with next generation sequencing methods and data is a strong plus.
