Head of I.T. Strategy & Management

We are seeking an experienced operational leader to head our I.T. Strategy & Management unit, serving as the primary interface between the Department of Medical Informatics (DMI) and our research community. This hands-on role requires a service-oriented leader who can transform stakeholder needs into delivered solutions while building a culture of operational excellence.
The successful candidate will establish robust project management practices, implement service management frameworks, and ensure seamless coordination of major IT initiatives. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a complex stakeholder environment and excels at translating between technical teams and research customers.

Key Accountabilities
Service Delivery & Operations

  • Act as the "front desk" of DMI, managing day-to-day interactions with research departments
  • Coordinate delivery of major IT projects, including ERP migration and research infrastructure initiatives
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive service catalog in collaboration with DMI unit heads
  • Ensure smooth handoffs and coordination between DMI units and research stakeholders
  • Monitor service quality and implement continuous improvement initiatives


Project & Portfolio Management

  • Implement standardized project management workflows across DMI
  • Oversee portfolio of research IT projects from initiation through delivery
  • Manage resource allocation across multiple concurrent initiatives
  • Establish project reporting and governance mechanisms
  • Drive implementation of agile methodologies within the unit and support adoption across DMI


Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop team of 6 professionals (project managers, business analysts, information security officer)
  • Conduct performance management and professional development planning
  • Foster collaborative team culture focused on service excellence
  • Manage team workload and capacity planning
  • Oversee Information Security Management System (ISMS) implementation through ISO 27001

Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across research departments
  • Facilitate requirements gathering and solution design sessions
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and communicate project status
  • Resolve conflicts and escalations at operational level
  • Present unit capabilities and achievements to internal audiences


Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 5–7 years of experience in IT project or service management, ideally in academic, research or healthcare environments
  • Solid project management expertise (PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent), with experience using tools like Jira
  • Familiarity with ITIL and agile methodologies
  • Good understanding of information security and compliance
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Emotionally intelligent, diplomatic, and resilient under pressure
  • Proven team leadership and stakeholder management skills, customer service orientation and problem-solving mindset
  • Fluent in English; French or German is a strong asset
