Welcome back to the ACADI Newsletter! We have been working hard and we have a few updates to share with you.

Grant proposals

September was a busy month for grant proposals. Our team submitted 3 grants, both collaborative and individual, bringing our total number of grant submissions to 5 within the past 9 months! Watch this space to hear the outcome of our efforts.

Transfer of Knowledge

We have a few developments to share!

Dr India Pinker has just published a paper entitled: “The attitudes of Healthcare Professionals in treatment decision making for older adults with cancer: A scoping review protocol” – read her work here: https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/13/10/e077628.full . This is the very first paper of the REDICO project. Congratulations to her!!

From the 3rd – 6th October 2023, Dr Sophie Pilleron was a member of the faculty for the first International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG) Masterclass:  Geriatric Oncology Clinical Trials Design held in Fribourg, Switzerland. This Masterclass sought to offer world-class training to healthcare professionals treating older cancer patients to develop protocol concepts for clinical trials that assist in gathering more evidence for older cancer patients. In addition to this, Dr Pilleron now co-leads the Cost action entitled Implementation Network Europe for Cancer Survivorship Care, extending our international leadership.

Expanding our connections

ACADI is pleased to connect with Stëftung Hëllef Doheem via Dr Elisabeth Bourkel and Stephanie Meyer. SHD is the largest local network of assistance and care services, caring for older adults across Luxembourg. We are looking forward to some exciting collaborative work with this great group!

Following the engaging FNR conference for ATTRACT and PEARL Fellows on the 28th of September, ACADI has connected with Professor Conchita D’Ambrosio from the Institute of Health and Behaviour at the University of Luxembourg. Her research primarily focuses on social inequalities and well-being and we look forward to what this connection can bring.

ACADI would also like to congratulate the National Cancer Registry for hosting a successful event to celebrate their 10th birthday! We really enjoyed attending your talks and learning about your progress. We look forward to working together in the future.

ACADI is really looking forward to attending the SIOG 2023 conference in Valencia from the 9th -11th of November!

Team Growth

October has also brought us a new team member! We are delighted to introduce our new PhD student Gladys Langue. She is a nurse by background and will be investigating access to diagnosis for older adults with cancer in Luxembourg, under the supervision of Dr Sophie Pilleron and Dr Valérie Moran. Welcome Gladys!!

Until next time, keep well!
