Master’s Internship Position in Nutrition Sciences

Applicants should be enrolled in a Master's program, and the internship should be a mandatory part of the degree.

Within the Department of Precision Health, Dr. Torsten Bohn, Head of the Nutrition & Health Research Group (NUTRIHEALTH), in collaboration with his team, aims to explore the world of carotenoids and dietary fibers. A key focus is the role of dietary fibers in the bioaccessibility and cellular uptake of carotenoids, as well as their physico-chemical effects on gastrointestinal digesta. The project will employ in vitro digestion techniques to assess the bioaccessibility of carotenoids
For a project related to NutriHealth, we are offering a 6-month paid internship for Master’s (2nd-year) students at our premises.
The main tasks of the Master’s student will include working on in vitro digestion, recovering carotenoids, and measuring the physico-chemical properties of the digesta. In the frame of this work, the Master student will benefit from the expertise of Dr. Torsten Bohn in nutrition and health, and Dr. Farhad Vahid in nutrition sciences and food chemistry.

Main Activities

  • Conduct bibliographic research.

  • Perform hands-on scientific experiments in the laboratory, including in vitro digestion, spectrophotometric measurements, cell culture work, particle size analysis, fatty acid release, and related techniques.

  • Discuss results within the group and with other researchers.

  • Interpret findings using statistical methods.

  • Participate in project meetings and organizational tasks.

  • Give presentations at the local institute level.

  • Take part in other group-based activities.

Required Profile

  • Master’s (2nd-year) student in Food Chemistry, Clinical Nutrition, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Nutritional Sciences, Bioinformatics with a focus on Diet & Health, or a comparable field.

  • Previous experience in in vitro experiments, cell culture work, or related laboratory fields.

  • Strong practical laboratory skills.

  • Good scientific writing skills in English.

  • Excellent project and time management skills.

  • Professional, disciplined, and proactive approach to working in a multi-disciplinary team.
