Data Factory Team Leader

We are seeking an experienced Team Leader to lead our Data Factory group in our Data Integration Center (DIC) Unit of the Department of Medical Informatics (DMI). This role involves the design, implementation and management of the data collection and integration services of the standard service catalogue and its supporting team. In this role, you will be collaborating with cross-functional teams, internally and externally. The ideal candidate will have a strong background team leadership and software development and systems integration for data collection and integration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the definition of and implement the data collection and data integration strategy for the Department of Medical Informatics;
  • Design and implement the DIC data collection and integration service catalogue offering;
  • Oversee the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), from requirements gathering and design to testing, deployment, and maintenance of software solutions for the data collection services of the DIC and related research projects and initiatives within LIH;
  • Build and manage a high-performing software and data engineering team within the DIC, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and professional development;
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor and coach team members, fostering their technical skills, scientific knowledge, and career growth within LIH's research environment;
  • Act as the primary point of contact for data collection and integration requests within the DIC, collaborating effectively with researchers, IT Project Managers, and the IT Architecture Group to ensure alignment with LIH's IT infrastructure and policies;
  • Manage the team resources effectively within the DIC, ensuring optimal allocation to support ongoing research projects and new initiatives;
  • Contribute to the evaluation and selection of new technologies and tools to enhance the team's capabilities and maintain LIH's position at the forefront of biomedical research.

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Masters' degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Medical Informatics, or a related field;
  • Minimum of five years professional software development experience, with a proven track record of leading and managing software engineering teams in a research or healthcare setting;
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies (e.g. Agile, Waterfall) and best practices in software design (e.g. Clean Architecture), development, and testing, particularly for data-focused applications;
  • Experience with .NET and Angular frameworks, as well as other relevant technologies for web development;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with researchers, technical staff, and external partners;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while delivering high-quality results on time;
  • Fluency in English and French (mandatory) additional language skills (German, Luxembourgish) are a plus;
  • Familiarity with medical informatics systems and standards (e.g. HL7, FHIR, openEHR) are an asset;
  • Experience in data collection and integration solutions for research purposes, ideally in the medical or healthcare domain is an asset.
