Tenure Track positions in Bioinformatics/Big Data for Health/AI - AC0221

The LIH is looking for highly motivated outstanding candidates with a strong interest in high dimensional health- or biology- related data analysis to establish a research team and run a dedicated service platform in relevant fields of interest. The focus of the core facility will be to support the current research demand of all LIH departments which are active in the field of cancer, immunologic diseases, and digital and precision public  health. Candidates should have a strong background in at least one of the following fields: Bioinformatics, Omics-data analysis, NGS, Tumour Genomics, Artificial Intelligence, System Biology (e.g:Image based system biology), single cell technologies (e.g.: transcriptomicsand proteomics),  Big Data for health and programming. Overall, candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge with Algorithmic, Mathematical, Ontological and Statistical concepts with medical research applications. The applicants should be driven to take a leading role in expanding the research activities at LIH including supervision of Postdocs and PhD students and the acquisition of external funding for novel and innovative research collaborations. Key Accountabilities
  • Establish, organize and run a core team specialized in Bioinformatic, Big Data analysis or Artificial Intelligence research and platform activities
  • Implement new analysis pipelines for data analysis
  • Support research groups in the planning of health- or biology-related data valorization    
  • Supervise and guide researchers
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the LIH strategy and take part in exchanges with external stakeholders (ministries, National Research Fund [FNR], EU funding, industry, etc.)
  • Foster the development and establishment of novel scientific techniques and methods.
  • Write research grants in order to secure funds for scientific projects.
  • Expand international reputation through presentations, conference participation, etc

KEY SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • A PhD degree or MD degree with equivalent qualifications in Artificial Intelligence, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Computational Biology, Systems Biology or a similar area
  • Strong research background in computational biology with a focus on Bioinformatic analysis, Artificial Intelligence, System Biology, single cell technologies, and programming.
  • Documented knowledge in at least one of the following domains  (molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, oncology, immunology, microbiology, microbiome science, image analysis, digital health, e-health records etc.)
  • Experience in the management of a research group, with teaching activities including Master, MD or PhD students
  • Experience in pursuing external fundings for novel and innovative research collaborations
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative research environment
  • Languages skills: fluent command of English, knowledge of other languages of the European Union is an asset
