Research Leader in Orthopaedics, sports medicine and Digital Health methods - FG1019

The Research Leader inOrthopaedics, sports medicine and Digital Health methods will mainly be incharge of basic, translational, clinical or epidemiological studies in order to support the transversal research axis on human motion and digital assessment methods in the disease focus areas of the LIH.

Key Accountabilities
  • Establish research programme and infrastructure for the lab-based, free-field and remotely monitored assessment of human motion and related biometrics.
  • Develop a digital mobility assessment ecosystem, in particular wearable sensors for ambulant use and real-life monitoring.
  • Provide proactive support to project team leaders in orthopaedic, sports medicine of other disease programs (primary customers).
  • Promote and drive meaningful clinical research exploiting the novel digital assessment methods, in particular wearable monitors and remote (e.g. app-based) assessment methods.
  • Monitor and continuously perform technology assessment of and clinical needs evaluation for emerging digital methods.
  • Generate visibility and recognition on international academic level by writing and supporting publications, conference contributions and taking initiative in related research networks and professional societies.
  • Serve as a recognized or preferred partner for industry or other stakeholders to co-develop, validate or test digital health products, especially related to human motion, orthopaedics and sports medicine.
  • Actively reach out to and interact with national stakeholders with related activities or synergy potential  towards realising the collaborative potential.  
KEY SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum PhD degree in Life Sciences Medical engineering or digital health with a working experience of
  • minimum 10 years in a public research organisation active in the medical/clinical field.
  • Proven experience in leading a research team Demonstrated successful track record in research and dissemination of research results
  • Ability to develop and maintain trustworthy relationships with research staff and industry representatives to feed a pipeline of inventions and business opportunities.
  • Experience in research management in an academic and/or industrial environment.
  • Proven strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities.Flexibility and adaptability to organisational changes.
  • Proven ability of working effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Language skills: Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English, fluent command of French; German skills would be an advantage.
