Head of Biospecimen Science - UN1220

The Head of Biospecimen Science is mainly responsible for directing the biospecimen research activities at IBBL (Integrated Biobank of Luxembourg)  and the ongoing protocol developmental work that improves the efficiency of IBBL.

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop and implement scientific projects and objectives in biospecimen science
  • Provide assistance as required for the IBBL Production team to improve their existing protocols and develop new ones.
  • Provide leadership in the development of plans for external contracts and grant applications in the scope of biospecimen science.
  • Facilitate scientific excellence in research projects by working with researchers from different institutions.
  • Serve on task forces and focus groups relevant to the design of clinical and translational research projects and biobanking.
  • Establish research collaborations with national and international partners.
  • Participate in international conferences, workshops, working groups and technical committees.
  • Supervise members of the Biospecimen Science Group, students and interns.
  • Write and publish scientific manuscripts 

KEY SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD and/or MD would be an asset.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the field of molecular analysis, biospecimen science, pathology and biobanking environments.
  • Very good knowledge of biospecimens, the preanalytical variables that can influence them, the techniques by which analyses are extracted from them and the assays that are used for the Quality Control assessment of biospecimens and their derivatives
  • A strong and consistent track record of publications.
  • Demonstrable success in obtaining grant funding.
  • Demonstrable successful engagement in collaborative scientific projects.
  • Knowledge of statistics.
  • Experienced team manager.
  • An understanding of research ethics and quality management procedures.
  • Excellent spoken and written English: additional French and German would be an advantage
