Biorepository Technician - KB0618

The Biorepository technician is responsible for the receipt, inventory, storage and redistribution of biological samples requiring specific and controlled environmental conditions. Daily operations include: logistics, handling and documentation of samples entering or exiting the Biobank (IBBL).  He/She is also responsible for the storage area, its equipment, organization and compliance with quality system requirements. Accuracy, attention to detail  are key requirements. Salary is based on experience and education

Key Accountabilities

·       Perform full range of operations in biorepository:

-          Collection kit design

-          Kit production

-          Ordering consumables and stock management

-          Management of samples, i.e.: reception, storage, retrieval, destruction

-          Incoming sample quality control 

-          Recording of all sample movements in LIMS or other tools

-          Management of all IBBL storage devices including content inventories

-          Pack and ship in compliance with applicable regulations


·       Manage the temperature monitoring system

·       Ensure compliance of biorepository operations and equipment with QMS

·       Communicate with staff at clinical and research sites to ensure safety and regulatory compliance, quality control and smooth transfer of samples and data

·       Supervise temporary staff hired from time to time

·       Perform other related duties as required


·         Bachelor degree ideally in Biology or related field

·         Proficiency in the use of computers linked to technical equipment and in general office software (Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint))

·         Adaptability and rigor

·         Written and oral communication skills

·         Languages skills : fluent written and spoken French and English.  Additional fluency in German would be an asset 

                            Desired criteria, assets

·  Previous work experience in

-          an accredited environment,

-          a blood bank or clinical laboratory,

-          a specialised logistics company, or

-          a general laboratory

·  Experience in clinical trials
